The nation’s third largest state after Alaska and Texas, California encompasses more than 150,000 square miles and offers a variety of landscapes, cultures and wild habitats. The state is home to untamed deserts, majestic mountains and canyons, ancient Redwood and Sequoia forests and 840 miles of coastline. Exploring the entire state in one trip might not be reasonable—or practical–but taking short road trips that explore regions of California allows you to get to know the state intimately and at your own pace.

Step 1

Decide which area of California you’d like to explore. Northern California offers wineries, rugged coastline, majestic Redwood forests and the historic cities of San Francisco, Eureka and Santa Cruz. Central California is home to the upscale, coastal Monterey; the cowboy town of Bakersfield; the former Gold Rush settlement of Kernville, and the Fresno-San Joaquin Valley, also known as California wine country. In the southern part of the state you’ll find the quaint, immaculate ocean-side town of Santa Barbara, as well as Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego.

Step 2

Determine how long you’d like to be on the road. A trip up the coast can be completed in as little as a day, but you won’t get to stop and see much. Plan on at least three to four days if you’d like to stop and explore, more if you’d like to stop and relax. If you’re traveling the state from south to north, you can zip up Interstate 5, which runs from San Diego to the California-Oregon border and winds through fruit orchards and rolling farmland, or you can take the more leisurely 101 Freeway, which hugs the coast and offers stunning ocean and mountain scenery.

Step 3

Take time to visit a National Park, Monument or Preserve. The U.S. National Park Service maintains 23 different areas in California. National Parks in the Golden State include Redwood, Joshua Tree, Yosemite and Pinnacles. Lava Beds National Monument, just south of Oregon border, doesn’t get nearly as crowded as some of the more well-known National Parks in California. The park features more than 700 caves, as well as inactive volcanoes, American Indian rock art and historic battlefields. At the 1.6-million-acre Mojave National Preserve in Nipton, you’ll find Joshua tree forests, volcanic cinder cones, abandoned mines and homesteads and seemingly endless carpets of wildflowers.

Step 4

Make lodging reservations as far in advance as possible. Accommodations in the northern California beach town of Mendocino, for example, fill up very early for the months between December and April, due in large part to the annual migration of 20,000 gray whales, which make their way from their Baja winter home to their summer habitat in northern California. State and National Park campgrounds and lodges fill up quickly as well, especially during the summer. Even though you should book well in advance, many campgrounds have restrictions on how early they’ll accept reservations. For example, Yosemite National Park accepts reservations up to five months prior to your arrival date. Six of its 13 campgrounds are first-come, first-served, but if you don’t arrive by noon you might not be able to claim a spot.

It would require the writing skill of a Shakespeare or Thomas Hardy to describe the diversity of Northern California. For, Northern California offers a whole variety of entertain, visual delights, cuisine, and so much of history.

The beauty of Northern California lies in its silvery beaches, diverse marine, the awe inspiring forests of tall sequoia and redwood trees, the towns, now forlorn, which at one teemed with prospectors of goal and silver.

California is easily accessible. If you are planning a trip to Northern California, and wish to avoid the routine and often mundane tours, and wish to plan your own trip, with no specific agenda, then RV camping is ideal for you. Be warned however that during the summer months Northern California gets heavily booked, and woe betide you, if you don’t book in advance.

Be sure to book well in advance at the right place. Find out which places in North California have good, well maintained RV camps, and you can book a place for your RV, what facilities are offered and so on. Please go into detail, because if you land up in the wrong place, instead of having a holiday, you would be spending a nightmarish experience. The best place for taking an RV is generally in the Sequoia National Park and the Redwood National Park. They have good hook up facilities and ease of access. Make sure that the dimensions of your RV are such you can get in and out without having to content with outsized RVs! It has happened to many, and sure, you would want to avoid it.

You can even think of camping your RV on the beaches of California. There are some very good beaches where you can park your RV, but again, you need to call in first and book yourself a good camping place with all the attendant facilities that you need. You can think of Fort Braggs Beach and the Half Moon Bay. These are the more popular ones, but you can discover more suitable for yourself.

We mentioned earlier that another great attraction of Northern California is its ghost towns, that were once a hotbed of activity with prospectors for gold. Some people like to camp out here in the old ghost towns. Bodie is one such town.

Sacramento, the historical capital also attracts visitors in very large number of months. You can of course choose to stay in one of the large many hotels of the town, but if you think it cramps your style, you can use your RV in one the camps that are available just outside the city.

Before beginning your trip, make sure your RV is in good condition, and that the air conditioning is working perfectly. Northern California can become very hot and humid so checking your air conditioner is a must.

Again it bears repetition that if you are planning a trip to North California you need to make firm bookings whether it is for an RV or even an hotel room. And if you are taking your family with you, do make sure very much that all your travel plans are in good shape and everything is finalised and you are holding confirmed bookings.

The capital of California is Sacramento and there are several great places to live in outside of the Sacramento area. Roseville and Rancho Cordova are two of the cities which should be considered if living in Northern California region. This article will look into the different things that these two cities have to offer and why they are nice places to live, other than being located in beautiful northern California. An owner of a Rancho Cordova corporate catering company that serves up some of the best Roseville BBQ catering in the area says he would live in no other community than Roseville or Ranch Cordova for many different reasons.

The first city, Roseville has a population of a little over 100,000 residents but is growing steadily expecting it to be closer to almost 134,000 by the year 2015. The area of Roseville is over 30 square miles big and has several beautiful streams that go through the city named Dry Creek, Linda Creek, Secret Ravine and Cirby Creek. This city has beautiful and lush vegetation that is so common in Northern California with the cooler climate and additional rainfall that it gets. Most of the rain falls during the cooler winters and the summer are typically hot and dry in Roseville. CNN’s Money ranked Roseville as one of the Best Places to live in 2006. Another ranking showed this city to be the skinniest city in the country with a body mass index of only 24.5. This may explain why there are a number of professional and Olympic athletes that hail from Roseville.

Roseville has a strong economy in it with a lot of retail businesses in it. It is the spot of one of the largest Auto malls in the nation that helps the local community as well as being known for a great deal of shopping options. This city ranked as having the 11th highest retail sales in the entire state of California last year with its wide variety of shopping options. It is known as a regional shopping destination with people traveling there to go shopping. The largest destination is the Westfield Galleria which is continuing to expand and across the street from that is another retail location called the Fountains. They are hoping once the economy improves, so will things in this great city of Roseville.

There are several other large employers in Roseville like Hewlett-Packard, Kaiser Permanente, Union Pacific Railroad, and Sutter Roseville Medical Center is considered as some of the larger companies. In 1988 Roseville decided to undergo a revitalization of the downtown area improving many of the historic buildings that were falling apart.

Rancho Cordova is a new community that was incorporated in 2003 and already has a population of 60,000 residents. It was named after the Cordova Vineyards that were located there. It is a diverse mixture of residents and many famous professional baseball players also hailed from Rancho Cordova such as Chris Bosio and Max Venable. Another notable resident is Lester Holt from the Today Show.

If you’re thinking about “tying the knot” and desire a beautiful and unique outdoor wedding location, you may want to consider having a Lake Tahoe wedding. The south shore of Lake Tahoe offers fantastic lakeside venues where you can have your ceremony, and there are many romantic beach locations to choose from. Every potential wedding site has its own distinctive appeal, each quite diverse from the other. A pleasant surprise, too, is that you will find that having your wedding take place at the edge of the water’s of Tahoe may be far less expensive than you might have imagined.

Regan Beach and Emerald Bay are only but two of the many popular spots in Tahoe for the bride and groom to marry. Regan Beach has several places for the couple to choose from to have their ceremony and post ceremony photographs. You can be right at the waters edge in the sand or slightly elevated above lake level in a grassy, park-like setting.

Lakeside weddings in Tahoe are relatively inexpensive. A simple wedding without a lot of frills can be as low as $195, which includes the minister at the location, a marriage license, and the notary fees. Also, after the ceremony, the minister will transport the original marriage license he issued to you at completion of the ceremony to the county recorder’s office where you will receive a recorded copy of your marriage license.

Additionally, if you are a little flexible with the time of your wedding, you may be able to pick a location of your choice and not have to reserve that particular location you’ve chosen, which helps keep the cost and any budget concerns to a minimal by avoiding reservation fees. So, if cost is a factor, a little flexibility can save you a bundle.

What other place in the world can you have a wedding that matches the beauty of Lake Tahoe for under $200? Though cost and beauty are only a couple of reasons why many brides and grooms make the journey to the “Lake in the Sky”, there are many more. Did I mention it is a great place for a honeymoon too?

Lake Tahoe weddings have provided a lifetime memory for countless couples who have fallen in love, a memory made all within a truly romantic setting. Tahoe’s lakeside venues have been a primary destination for wedding couples for decades and continue to increase in popularity as a favorite spot to wed. If it’s a lakeside wedding with a view you’re after, consider the option of an outdoor beach wedding alongside the crystal clear, blue waters of Tahoe as the ceremonial site for your once in a lifetime event.

While Southern California gets the bulk of the attention when people think about vacationing in the state, the Northern California region should no be overlooked. With more forests, a more rugged style of coastline, and completely unique cities and towns, Northern California is a very good vacation destination. Here are three great things to do and places to go during a vacation to Northern California.

1. The city of San Francisco should be on the top of the destination list of anyone wanting a great vacation. From the fun that can be had on San Francisco Bay, to the sights available in the Golden Gate National Recreation, to the fantastic things to do in downtown San Francisco and in the amazing waterfront area.

2. Redwoods National Park is one of the more visually impressive places to travel to in Northern California. It not only offers a chance to experience the towering Redwoods that give the park its name, but it also borders the Pacific Ocean and provides for some wonderful photo taking opportunities.

3. The California State Capitol Building is a wonderful place to visit for anyone with even a slight interest in history or government. First, the building is a living historical building where the state government still operates and functions on a daily basis. In the second place, also housed at the capitol building is a wonderfully equipped museum detailing the history of the state of California and the government that has operated there.

Experienced travelers know that though it is sometimes overshadowed by the southern part of the state, Northern California can provide for a wonderful vacation experience. From the beautiful coastline to the high mountains and heavily forested areas in the interior, Northern California is a first class, high quality vacation destination.

In San Francisco, tattoo erasing centers have proliferated all over the Bay Area because of the high demand in their services. This is because there is a high number of people seeking erase their current tattoos for one reason or another. If this is you, there are a few locations within the city that you can examine: Oakland, Presidio, Haight Ashbury and Glen Park

There are many reasons why people do desire to remove their tattoo from time to time. One of these is that a tattoo may have lost its usefulness or the circumstances under which it was acquired have changed. Sometimes a person who got a tattoo earlier on in their life now wants it deleted. Then off course there is a huge number who are looking for a white collar job and do not want their tattoos to be a hindrance to their passing the interview. Regardless of what reason one has for erasing their tattoo, there are facilities and centers in San Francisco that will help in removing a tattoo for a fee.

The facilities in San Francisco that specialize in removing tattoos employ different methods of deleting a tattoo. Many utilize modern technology which can also be sub-divided into other smaller methods. Regardless of the methods utilized, many of the centers are safe, professional and affordable. For those who use laser technology as a means to eradicate tattoos, the cost may discourage some. One way to not pay for the procedure is to consult with a dermatologist and see whether they offer the service. If they do, then you can check to see whether they accept insurance.

If the tattoo removers accept insurance then this can be a ticket to have the tattoo removed at no cost. Other centers include non-profit organizations which do community outreach projects that target low income areas of the city. These can also perform tattoo erasing procedures at no charge. But whether it is for a fee or at no charge, the service will be professionally done. You might also want to consult with your dermatologist before getting your tattoo removed because they can tell you which procedure best suits your skin.

Fly early in your trip. In other words, consider the helicopter leg of your travel as “scouting” because an airborne overview provides terrific information and insight about the area that would take years of detailed exploration otherwise.

As you make your scouting flight, be sure to orient yourself by the large landmarks, the large mountains, large lakes, the cities and settlements, and roadways as reference points. By scouting ahead of time, you will make better use of your vacation time in the area because you will have a better sense of relative distances. You also may well discover a fascination with some little-known area that you would never have otherwise seen.

And there’s one other subtle factor. When you go into a new area, even a new city, it’s very common to feel a sense of disorientation, compared to your own home and your well-known “stomping grounds”. That’s just natural. And one way to quickly gain that feeling of assurance is by scouting.

For example, if you will be in a new city for several days just driving around the city once produces a different feeling inside your mind and body. In a similar and more dramatic fashion, your exploratory scouting trip by helicopter will give you a completely different feeling about the area and your current adventure.

Safety and Fun Essentials

Safety first. When choosing your helicopter charter or your helicopter tour company be up-front and ask how many hours experience your pilot has logged. If you have a choice of pilots, you might want to choose the one with the largest number of safe hours.

You may also be reassured if you inquire about the helicopter’s maintenance. Because you want to navigate the sky in the a helicopter which is neat and clean, because you want to see fanaticism when it comes to safety and maintenance.

Since you’re going to be looking out the windows, it makes sense to be certain that there are windows for you to look out of. That is to say, if you choose a four-seater helicopter, then it’s pretty certain that each person will be sitting beside a window. There do exist helicopters with few windows, so it’s a good idea to inquire.

And since you’re going to be looking out the windows, it also makes sense to ensure that you can see out of the windows easily. If you will wear dark clothing, then there will be less glare on the inside of the windows. A simple precaution, and better sight-seeing. One last tip: discuss with your pilot what you want to see. Don’t assume that he or she will know. Even if it was discussed earlier, it won’t hurt to remind the pilot what you want to see.

Motion Discomfort Tips

If you are new to flying, or if you sometimes experience motion sickness, here are some precautions that you can take to ensure that your adventure travel through Northern California by helicopter is as fun as it could possibly be.

First, be aware that keeping your eyes on the horizon may help to keep you oriented and to reduce any discomfort from the motion of the aircraft.

Next, before you start out, eat only lightly. Your stomach may well thank you! If the helicopter has an air vent or a window that will send cool air towards your face, for most people it reduces discomfort from the craft’s motion.

And if you want to use more extreme measures, consider over-the-counter medications such as Dramamine.

Your adventure travel by helicopter will give you a better vacation, more fun, and an exciting kickoff to your stay in Northern California. You can enjoy the magnificent mountains, the pristine waterways and Clearwater Lakes, and forests as old as mankind… from the air!

Medford Oregon is well known as being the professional, retail and touring center of southern Oregon and northern California. The many cultural, business and recreational opportunities make it one of the most popular places for visitors in the Northwest. In addition to its natural scenery and diverse landscape, there is a myriad of entertaining activities available.

Located in the heart of the Rogue River Valley, Medford has all the conveniences of any large metropolitan area in a setting that also allows access to vast natural landscapes. The wide diversity makes it a memorable destination for anyone who enjoys a blend of urban and outdoor activities.

Of course, the main attractions lie among the vast forests, mountain wilderness and natural beauty of this spectacular region. People flock from all around the world to take advantage of the parks, campgrounds and nature trails. Biking, hiking, hunting and fishing facilities are available in great abundance throughout the region.

The crowning glory of the landscape is the Rogue River. As the river winds gracefully through the valley, it is surrounded by some of the most magnificent and diverse terrain in the world. Known for its salmon runs, whitewater rafting, and rugged scenery, it was one of the original eight rivers named in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.

There are spots where the waters are calm for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Canoes and kayaks are welcome and the river provides miles of pleasurable, leisurely paddling. Trout are plentiful and fishing is a major pastime for anglers who venture to the more secluded spots along the river.

For those who are a bit more adventurous, white water rapids here are a big attraction along the more rugged portions of the waterway. White water rafting tours are available most of the year, with equipment and experienced guides for a safe and fun experience. These trip packages range from a few hour day trip to four day adventures.

Northeast of Medford you can find the deepest lake in the United States, which is also the ninth deepest in the world, at the Crater Lake National Park. Most any outdoor activity imaginable is offered here. Backpacking, rock climbing and hiking draw many people, with plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the wide open spaces.

Crater Lake became a national park in 1902 and has all the modern amenities you might expect, while maintaining its pristine beauty. Accommodations are easy to reserve with a number of options to suit most any traveler. Hotels, motels and lodges can be found near the park, with camping available inside the park itself.

Just down the road from Medford, you’ll find the historic town of Jacksonville. Located in Jacksonville is the world famous, non-profit organization called the Britt Festivals. This is a premiere summer performing arts festival presenting lively summer concerts. It features many musical genres including blues, folk and pop, among others, in a naturally formed outdoor amphitheater.

Fine courses cater to golfers and networks of trails fulfill the needs of horseback riders. Music, shopping and a variety of entertainment are always readily accessible. Whatever your tastes, Medford Oregon has something around every corner.

If you live in the Bay Area or in Northern California, moving your home based startup to a professional office space is probably a pending question on your mind, but many times the transition doesn’t make fiscal sense. Until you are ready to upgrade to a traditional office, consider Bay Area Virtual Office Services that are designed to work in parallel with your home office.

Virtual Office providers offer solutions that won’t break your bank. Here are some of the services you can expect to find:

A Prestigious business address. Instead of a P.O. Box or -worse!- your home address on your business cards, establish a solid corporate identity by using a well-known Bay Area Class ‘A’ office building downtown as your business address.

Personalized phone answering services. Imagine a receptionist answering your calls with your company name and transferring callers to your home phone, cell phone, or voicemail. Your clients will never know that you are talking to them from your basement!

Executive offices and conference rooms. Your kitchen table isn’t the best meeting option when selling your business to a potential client or investor. Most virtual office packages include free day-office and conference room hours as part of the monthly package. Why hold meetings at Starbucks when you can use a fully-equipped conference room in a high-rise office building with striking views?

Mail & Courier Services. Your receptionist will receive and retain mail packages or forward according to your instructions.

Unified Messaging & Technology. Everything from E-fax to receiving your voicemail messages as an email attachment to enterprise-grade Internet connection.

On-Demand Professional Services. For the few times a year you may need accounting support, desktop publishing, or clerical support, you can use the extra help on a pay-per-use basis.
